Proud Army mom!

One of my best friends has been asking me to make her a dress for her 40th birthday since last year. I still can’t believe that we all have turned 40 this year! Especially because we have been best friends for 25 years now..what a blessing!

A few weeks before her birthday I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to make her, I guess you can say I was waiting for a bit of inspiration to hit me.

Early this year her daughter joined the Army and I thought how cool would it be if I can find some nice fabric with an army print to make her 40th birthday dress.

So one day I was at the fabric store standing at the counter waiting to get some fabric cut and I spotted a sparkling fabric that looked to me like army print so I walked over to see it and lo and behold it was! I couldn’t believe I had attracted this fabric to me 🙂

So I bought a yard because at that point I had decided that this dress was going to be simple and just let the print stand out.

I started with a basic strapless a-line dress as my muslin and had her try it on so I can pin it and add my style line at the bottom of the dress.

Once I got her fitted and did all my markings I used these pieces as my pattern.

Inspired by her daughters brave decision to join the Army here is the final result! My friend couldn’t have been happier 😀
