The Making of a Burlesque Dancer..πŸ’ƒ

Exactly a year ago I went to go see a burlesque show with my little sister and even though I have costumed burlesque shows before, it never crossed my mind to actually perform in one! But this time when I went, I enjoyed the show so much that I actually was inspired to take a class.

The show was put on by the Vaudezilla Dance Studio owned by Red Hot Annie, who I got to meet after the show and told told me to take her class; of course I couldn’t say no to her! She is amazingly talented and beautiful!!

I was able to get a good deal on her class thru Groupon. The class would be for 8 weeks once a week and at the end we would perform a dance that we learned during class.

Week 1 thru 8

One of many rehearsals..some of the choreography had to be modified a bit because of my bad knee but it all worked out in the end ☺️

The weeks went by super fast and I am so proud of myself that I never missed one class during The Polar Vortex! Now it was time to start prepping for the actual performance and get our costumes ready. I honestly wanted to make my own costume but time got away from me so I had to just buy the pieces from different places and re-vamp them.

The song we performed to was L.O.V.E. by Frank Sinatra and we were told we could wear any type of lingerie as long as it was red along with a robe and gloves that we would be taking off as part of our performance.

Since this was a beginner’s class I didn’t have to get naked or wear pasties..thank goodness! lol

I actually did not want to go that far. That’s the beauty of burlesque! You don’t necessarily have to get naked. I also really loved the song and choreography! I felt like I lucked out with that because it was a classy, whimsical and fun dance! Totally my style! πŸ’ƒ

As for my costume; I decided I would wear a red bra, red panties, garter belt, fishnets with thigh high stockings over them, red robe and red gloves.

I went to the fabric store and bought a bunch of different kinds of embellishments and trims to add to my costume.

I also invited some girls from my class to come over and decorate their costume as well.

First I added rhinestones to the line at the back of my stockings using a hot fix heat tool and hot fix rhinestones that I bought at

On the top of the stockings I glued some diamond shaped gems and some rhinestones as an accent.

I also added rhinestones to my Dita Von Teese garter belt.. I figured I’ll channel my inner DVT by wearing something of hers lol πŸ˜‰

The gloves, robe and bra also got embellished with the red diamond gems and rhinestones. I also added a lace trim to my bra to match the lace on the garter belt.

To complete my look I bought some lace-like earrings to match.

The day of the show I hired an amazingly talented makeup artist and friend named can find her on Instagram @poshbeautybyava she did such a beautiful job!

I also went over my friends photo studio and did a small photo shoot so I’d have some nice photos of this memorable experience because who knows if I’d ever do this again! Lol

Here are the beautiful photos he took.

The show went great! Even though I was a nervous wreck! 😬 but I did manage to remember all my moves and the girls and I had so much fun onstage and off! This was truly a very empowering and wonderful women bonding experience that I will never forget! πŸ’ƒβ€

The final performance.. We may have had a little too much to drink backstage lol
